August Burns Red Celebrates 20 Years With a Scream

From Warped Tour to a Grammy nomination, August Burns Red has spent twenty years in the industry refining their one-of-a-kind metalcore style. It is no surprise, August Burns Red has stood the test of time in their industry, despite the changes in band members over the years. It is the consistency in their hardcore style that drives fans wild with each of their releases. Now, after ten successful studio albums, August Burns Red celebrates twenty years of triumph with their family of supporters on their current North American headlining tour.
Stepping on stage for their first live performance in 2005, August Burns Red has been entertaining metalheads for over a decade and continues to do such with each new release. Although the band has previously been denoted a Christian Rock Band, don’t let the misconceptions fool you, as the band is all screamo and hardly evangelical. In the past, August Burns Red members have commented on lyrics that others viewed as religious, stating that Christianity correlates to positivity for them. Thus the band isn’t projecting their belief on others, but rather promoting positivity through their complex instrumentals and vocals. In this way, it is evident the band’s aspiration to heal others through music has been inspirational as the capacity was nearly reached at the Palladium in Times Square, with stranglers waiting around at the box office to snag extra tickets.
All in all, August Burns Red put on an unforgettable performance for Times Square. The band is so tightly knit that even with new members intertwined into the five-piece ensemble, they’ve been able to maintain authenticity while growing musically. Jake Luhrs is simply an incomparable vocalist. His stamina throughout the 18-song setlist and further through a four-month-long tour is astonishing. There are many great screamo singers in today’s scene, however, Jake Luhrs has to be in the Top 5 best of them. As the frontman, Jake Luhrs lures in the crowd and captivates them from start to finish with his high-energy vocal performances, yet, you won’t be able to keep your eye only on Luhrs during the show as the whole band performs. From entertaining guitar tricks to intricate bass lines, the band puts on a dynamic performance that has moshpits opening before songs even start and people crowd surfing to every line.
There is still some time left to catch August Burns Red on their 20-Year Anniversary Tour, so snag some tickets while you can and jump around in those moshpits as you yell along to Marinas Trench to celebrate two decades of one of our favorite metalcore bands.
