Declan McKenna’s Big Return to Brooklyn

In suit and tie, Declan McKenna formally greeted Brooklyn on Thursday night for possibly his biggest return yet. Fans filled Brooklyn Steel with voices and raised hands as the English alternative artist gave everything in him to the crowd. It’s undeniable Declan McKenna is pursuing his passions, his music is unquestionably a part of him and something he cherishes deeply. Despite being known as a one-man show, Declan did bring a full band of talented musicians along with him on this leg of the tour. Declan further incorporated the time to showcase each musician during his almost twenty-song set list while at the same time expressing his own polished musicianship. However, what makes Declan’s show so mesmerizing is his own admirable stage presence. Declan doesn’t even need a band to fill the empty spaces on stage as he truly engulfs it. Declan can make a venue into a home for a night, he’s comfortable in front of a crowd, confident in his musical skills, exuberant on stage, and this translates into a seamless performance. Ultimately you can’t take your eyes off Declan when he takes over a city. All this being said, our favourite moment of the performance spotlighted Declan on the keyboard. The melodic interlude brought a personal and intimate touch to the packed show and surely made the crowd feel a greater connection to the artist. Declan McKenna couldn’t have made a better comeback, if you didn’t catch the artist’s big return to North America this summer, he will also be returning for a few shows over the fall and we highly recommend snagging tickets before others beat you to it! Listen to the artist’s newest release ‘Sympathy’ on all streaming platforms and purchase tickets to the remainder of the tour!
