A Decade of Lights: Passenger at the Orpheum
Passenger wrapped up his North American tour with a passionate performance at Vancouver’s historic Orpheum Theatre, celebrating his 10 year anniversary edition of the album, All the Little Lights.
His voice was effortlessly beautiful and expressive, as usual. At times, he sang acapella, letting his raw, emotive tones fill the room with an almost palpable intimacy. Throughout the concert, Passenger wove captivating stories behind some of his songs. For example, just before performing ‘Riding to New York’, Passenger beautifully told a story of a time he met a motorcyclist at a gas station who was an avid smoker. The motorcyclist was midway through a cross-country trip to visit his family after being diagnosed with lung cancer, planning to spend the rest of his days with them in New York. Though Passenger never learned the man’s name, it inspired him to quit smoking and create a song about the brief interaction.
Passenger also brought a sense of levity to the night with his engaging humor. Between songs, he created a warm and intimate atmosphere by cracking jokes and sharing captivating anecdotes that made him all the more human.
He ended the show with his 2012 hits ‘Let Her Go’ and ‘Scare Away the Dark’, as well as three encore songs from his other works. Although his North American leg has ended, he will continue on to his much-awaited Australian tour in October.
