Alexander 23 Premiere's New Song "When I Die"

Sights and Sounds had the opportunity to chat with up and coming indie pop artist Alexander 23 (Alexander Glantz) prior to his release of the infectious and heart wrenching "When I Die." The Chicago native is currently on tour with the talented Alec Benjamin throughout North America. We're thrilled to share with our readers the lyric video for A23's "When I Die." Check out what Alexander had to say below!

S&S: Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions, we know you have been extremely busy with releases and the tour. To start, how did Alexander 23 form?

A23: I had been making music professionally for a few years in various forms. I have always wanted to just make my own music and one morning I just kinda woke up and decided it was time.

S&S: Is there a reason as to why you chose the number 23 to follow your name?

A23: Yeah, there are actually a few reasons. I was born on January 23rd, I'm from Chicago and love basketball, and I started writing these songs when I was 23. The number has kinda followed me around my whole life.

S&S: Your newest song is "When I Die," can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind the song?

A23: "When I Die is my way of dealing with the inevitability of death. But I think even more so it's my way of expressing my love for life. Life is like a book. Books have two certainties, a start and an end. But you don't define a book by either of those two things, you define it by what's in between.

S&S: Was there a specific reason as to why you decided to make this song your second release under Alexander 23?

A23: It was actually the very first song that I ever wrote that totally felt like me, so I knew I really wanted to get it out early. Also, being that "Dirty AF1s" is lyrically more romance driven, I wanted to paint a broader spectrum of the types of things that I am going to talk about.

S&S: What do you hope fans take away from this track?

A23: That life is beautiful and worth living! How lucky are we to feel anything at all?!

S&S: You are currently on tour with Alec Benjamin. Prior to tour, did you have any affiliation to Alec?

A23: We had a bunch of mutual friends, but we didn't know each other personally. I'm so grateful to him for giving me this opportunity. It has been truly insane!

S&S: In the future, do you see you two collaborating on music?

A23: Definitely! Already some things in the works.

S&S: Is there anything you have taken away from being on tour with Alec?

A23: I think the biggest thing I've learned is that you really get back what you put out. Alec is honest and thoughtful in his music and in return his fans are honest and thoughtful back.

S&S: Can we expect an album or EP to be coming soon is that something still in the works?

A23: Not sure exactly yet how things will be rolled out, but you can definitely expect a steady flow of new music forever.

S&S: You have already been given some amazing opportunities such as playing Lollapalooza this summer! What are you most excited for in the future?

A23: Lollapalooza is really a dream come true. I grew up in Chicago going to Lolla dreaming one day that I would play it. I still can't really believe it's actually happening. Also, definitely never thought that my grandma would ever be at a music festival, but here we are.
