The Struts Rock Pier 17 Live in New York - July 27th

Pier 17 was everything but silent on the 27th of July. Fans gathered around the outdoor stage and bar to see the groovy rock band put on a show that they clearly didn’t want people to forget. And truly, how could you forget a show as high energy as The Struts?

The Struts are a four piece British rock band with a little extra groove to their music. The band does a marvelous job at incorporating the old rock roots of artists such as The Black Crowes, while still keeping the music youthful to attract younger listeners (such as myself). The lead singer can’t go missed with his flamboyant attitude and fashion sense mixed with his Mick Jagger dance moves. The lead guitarist makes his guitar cry every solo that he can squeeze in. The drummer is a human metronome who keeps the band sounding near perfection song after song. The tightly knit band clearly has a significant future in music and they are really just getting into it with their most recent release, YOUNG&DANGEROUS, their second album under the name The Struts. With a show like last night, it won’t take long before the band is blowing up worldwide. They know exactly what they’re doing and they’ll have fans selling out shows all around the world before the band can release a third album.

Luke Spiller, the singer of The Struts, makes an image for the band that attracts a diverse crowd. The singers whole entire stage presence is one that I must say was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time, coming in on a motorcycle dressed in 60’s attire. With a hint of Freddie Mercury and a touch of Steven Tyler, Luke Spiller is the next face of the eccentric side of the rock scene. His entire persona captivated me the whole show as he continued to use every inch of the stage. Dressed in glitter and platform boots, there wasn’t any point in the show where you weren’t staring at the lead singer.

But it wasn’t just Luke that made this show. The whole band is skilled at their instruments, they create a sound which was loved from back when my parents were teens and to see it coming back around for the younger generations to enjoy shows me that rock never will die. Not as long as The Struts keep taking the world by storm. The guitarist was beyond words, his solos were perfectly intertwined into each song he made the guitar cry to. It was evident that he knew what he was doing, it was illustrated in every song the band had performed. From electric guitar to acoustic guitar, the guitarist made a new depth to the band with his skills. The bassist and drummer kept the band together throughout the whole performance obviously knowing their instruments very well. All in all, the band was tightly knit, they knew their instruments and they knew how to create a performance that was unforgettable to all who were lucky enough to be in attendance.

The Struts have the key to success, with their outstanding musicianship and their ability to put on eccentric and high energy shows, it won’t be long before the band is taking the world by storm with their music. I can’t wait to see what the band has in store for their next tour and for years to come. Listen to the band's newest release YOUNG&DANGEROUS and don’t forget to catch them on the rest of their tour.
