Bass Coast 2023: Packing Essentials

Time is flying and the gates to Bass Coast 2023 are opening in less than two weeks. While you start putting together your packing list, here are a few of our top essentials and things to leave at home to ensure the best festival experience. If you’re a first-timer, make sure to check out the Bass Coast team’s full packing list.

What to bring: A Reflective Tarp

Sleep is essential numero uno at any festival. If you can’t sleep, you’re going to have a bad time. Easier said than done when the sun comes up before the music stops and nearly every camp site is in direct sunlight. A reflective tarp over your camp is an absolute must-have to prevent your tent from becoming a sauna at sunrise and to provide extra waterproofing if it rains.

Warm and Waterproof Clothes

Things take a quick turn once the sun goes down with temperatures often going below 10℃ in the evening. Hit the thrift store and find the biggest faux-fur coat you can find. Throw in your onesie when you get in your sleeping bag. Whether or not the forecast calls for rain, make sure to pack some waterproof gear. Consider packing some extra warm clothes in a plastic or dry bag just in case. Cozy, dry raving is the key!

Costumes

While everyone is free to come as they are, dressing up can certainly help to get you and your crew in the festival spirit. Why not coordinate a theme day with your crew? If you’re unsure where to start, you can always build your looks around the theme. This year’s theme is Avant Garden, and the Bass Coast team has put together a full mood board to help get the costume gears turning.

What to leave at home:

Glitter

While glitter can make a costume pop, it can also seriously damage the ecosystem. Rain easily sweeps glitter from the dancefloor into the river, which is bad news for the plant and wildlife. If sparkles are on your essentials list, make sure your glitter is fully biodegradable.

Glass

Of any kind from glass mirrors to bottles to dinnerware. Bass Coast has a fantastic team of healthcare volunteers, but these are some injuries that are easily preventable. Pick up an inexpensive acrylic mirror and some camping cookware to keep things safe for everyone.

Professional Sound Systems

With the stages running from nearly dusk until dawn, there will be no shortage of music on the festival grounds. Campsites should be a place to sleep and unwind between sets. Be courteous to your fellow campers and keep any campsite tunes to a respectful level!
