Memory Lane: Bedouin Soundclash at the Commodore Ballroom
Millennials around town whipped out their hemp sweaters and Vans on Saturday as renowned Toronto band, Bedouin Soundclash, brought their signature reggae ska sound to the Commodore Ballroom.
Jay Malinowski's notorious Soundclash-y vocals effortlessly glided over the band's lively rhythms. Both Malinowski and Sinclair's undeniable connection reminded us that they've been playing together for over 20 years. Leading into "Mountain Top", the song about standing up for what you believe in, Malinowski took the time to address important issues like climate change and the need for social justice, with great support from the crowd.
The show brought together a diverse group of fans, from longtime listeners to newcomers, both equally enjoying the mix of classic hits and newer tracks. Halfway through their set, the band snuck in the infamous "When The Night Feels My Song", catching everyone off guard in the most delightful way. Cheeky. Throwing in a few covers, the band's blend of reggae and ska was full-on as they effortlessly transitioned between songs.
Finishing off the night with an encore of four songs, Bedouin Soundclash transported the crowd back to the early 2000s, rekindling memories of a bygone, simpler time. With their ability to evoke such strong feelings of nostalgia, Bedouin Soundclash reminded us why their music is still so iconic.
