Royal Blood Reigns Supreme at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre
In a collision of raw energy and musical prowess, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver bore witness to a thunderous performance on November 14, 2023, as the British rock duo Royal Blood took the stage.
As the lights dimmed, an electrifying anticipation filled the air. The intimate yet grand atmosphere of the venue made for the perfect setting for Royal Blood's performance. The British duo, consisting of vocalist/bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher, wasted no time in unleashing their ferocious sound upon the eager audience.
Opening with "Mountains at Midnight," the venue was instantly engulfed with heavily distorted basslines and thunderous drum beats. Kerr's commanding vocals cut through the mix, as they delivered a generous combination of tracks from their entire discography, showcasing their evolution from blues-infused rock to their electronic-tinged sound of late.
When the duo played their popular crowd favourite, "Out of the Black," Kerr's bass riffs resonated like an earthquake as Thatcher's relentless drumming provided a rhythmic backbone that underscored the duo's ability to create a sound much larger than the sum of their parts.
The stage production was as dynamic as the music itself, as the light show enhanced the visual experience and allowed the two-piece to make themselves seem like a much larger band on the stage. The Queen Elizabeth Theatre, typically known for its classical performances, proved to be a perfect setting for their show.
Closing the night with the anthemic "Figure It Out," Royal Blood left the crowd exhilarated. Not a single person who had started the show in their seats were still sitting, and the band ended their night to the sounds of a standing ovation. It was a testament to Royal Blood’s rise in the music world as one of today’s top contemporary rock bands.
